The Liquid Force Maven Sessions kicked off
their summer clinic tour at Two Cow Cove, Lake Pleasant Arizona on April
27th and 28th.
Liquid Force Maven riders, Cathy Williams and Stef Tor were on hand to teach
the ladies of Arizona the ins and outs of wakeboarding. Forty-four
enthusiastic women braved the unpredictable and ever changing Arizona
weather for a chance to learn from the best, in a non-threatening, all women
environment. Each session began with a basic description of the Liquid
Force women’s boards. In case you didn’t know…The Diva has a narrower
tip and tail with a continuous rocker and is more forgiving for those just
starting out. The Angel is Melissa Marquardt's board and it has a
wider tip and tale with a continuous rocker. This board is for a more
advanced rider who appreciates soft landings. The Cadence is Amber
Wing's board and also sports a wider tip and tale with a 3 stage rocker.
This board gives you a lot of pop and is geared for those riders who like to
take tricks wake to wake.
Enough about product, back to the sessions!
Each of the ladies was set up on the L.F. board that most matched their
riding style and then they headed to the water. Six riders and one
instructor were loaded onto the two boats provided by Century Marine and MB
Boats of AZ. For those ladies who have never had the opportunity
to participate in any ladies only days, check one out the next chance you
get. This is one of the most inspiring, energetic, stress free ways to
get some pointers from people who know how to wakeboard. Besides,
learning how to get up, do a wake jump, a 180 or even your first invert; you
learn that nothing is impossible. You learn that Cathy Williams didn’t
start wakeboarding until she was 27 years old and she still kills it with
the “kids”. So why can’t you learn to get up at 4 years old or learn a wake
jump at 44? You learn that you want to push down as hard as you can
with your toes as soon as you stand up …..OOPS! Rather, you learn that
you tell the boys to do that when you want to watch them crash really hard.
Of course, you also learn that on toeside jumps you want only your front
shoulder showing to the boat and to have the handle low on your lead hip.
The best part of all of this is that you also get to meet some incredible
women who love this male dominated sport as much as you do, all the while
getting some pointers on how to improve your riding.
The group of riders that attended the
Arizona Maven Sessions was extremely diverse. Thursday’s sessions had
several mother and daughter pairs attending. Maci and her mother
Melanie, along with Hannah and her mother Sierra to name a few. Seeing
the little female rippers get up and brave the not so pleasant, Lake
Pleasant water was inspiring for all that witnessed it. Friday’s
sessions brought a lively group of women to the lake also. These
sessions were filled mainly with friends who came out to cheer each other
on. An unseasonably cold and overcast day left many women wondering if
the sessions would continue, but just like the mail neither rain, nor wind…
nor freezing cold lake and air temperatures would keep the Maven Sessions
from happening. Despite the frigid start to the day, 23 ladies still
arrive for two sessions ready to ride and learn. Like any experience,
what you take away from it is directly proportional to what you put into it.
One group of girls that attended on Friday were all about having fun and
learning. Kami, Kelsie, Mandy, Stephani and Sarah entertained
everybody on both boats. The water was rough, but that didn’t keep
this awesome group of ladies from making their own fun. In most cases,
pictures are worth a thousand words, so enjoy the pictures of the Arizona
Maven Sessions.
