Q. Is there a division just for women?

A. Yes, there is a division open to women of all ages.  Although, we do encourage women who have multiple inverts to participate in one of our non-gender specific divisions.

Q. Where do I register?

A. Pre-registration is available online at http://www.theawa.com/registration.php up to one week prior to the event.  Online pre-registration ends 24 hours prior to the start of the event.  On-site registration is available the morning of event from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

Q. How much does it cost to ride?

A. The cost to compete in a 2008 Rider Series competitive event can be calculated several ways.  If you plan on riding more than one event we recommend purchasing the full year WWA membership as well as AWA Membership.  You will pay $90 for the first event and $20 for every event thereafter.  If you only plan on riding in one event we recommend purchasing the single event WWA insurance.  You will pay $47 for the event.  The cost structure is broken down as follows:

WWA Insurance (mandatory) - $17 per event or $40 for the year.
Contest fees (mandatory) - $30 for non AWA members or $20 for AWA members per event.
AWA Membership (optional) - $30 per individual or $50 per family (self, spouse, children under 18)

Q. Do I have to be an AWA member?

A. No. However if you are a member you get $10 off the cost of each competitive event, an AWA T-shirt, and discounts at participating sponsors.

Q. What is the course like and how is this determined?

A. The course is approximately 1200’ to 1500’. The course will be explained at the riders meeting.

Q. How many falls am I allowed?

A. You are allowed 3 falls per run. Your run will end immediately after the third fall or if you fall and there is not enough room left in the course to get the boat up to speed.

Q. How are the contestants judged?

A. There are two judges that will judge from the boat. There are no predetermined points for tricks. Each contestant is judged on one individual run, which will be compared to other runs from the same heat and ranked only against those runs. Each contestant is judged on three categories: composition, execution and intensity. For additional information on each of the 3 categories, please read our Competition Guide.   Contestants should emphasize quality over quantity.

Q. Are the contestants allowed practice runs?

A. Currently, there are no practice runs being offered.  The heat of the Arizona summer can be extremely dangerous and in order to keep the event as short as possible we are no longer offering practice runs.  We feel that it is in the best interest of the riders, staff and volunteers to reduce the time spent in the heat.  Thanks for your understanding!!

Q. Are prizes given in cash money?

A. Prizes consist of merchandise and/or gift certificates and are awarded to the top three finishers for all divisions with the exception of Open/Outlaw. The actual prizes awarded are at the discretion of the AWA and the host sponsors.

The top three riders in the Open/Outlaw division will be awarded cash prizes. The amount is determined by the number of participants as well as rider placement. The total cash prize amount is equal to 80% of the total amount paid by the outlaw riders.
